What's in your pet's food?

Chris Robledo

If you've been reading the news, you may have come across reports about the recall of some pet foods and products. As a pet owner, it's made me a little nervous about what I feed my furry loved one. I'm sure if you're reading this, you may feel a little nervous, too.

Just recently, Newsweek  published an article that stated the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found low levels of a euthanasia drug called sodium pentobarbital in some brands of dog food, which is commonly used to put animals to sleep. The FDA states on it's website that the low level of the drug is "unlikely to pose a health risk to pets," but that this drug should not be found in pet food and products.

The American Veterinary Medical Association has a full list of the food recalls and alerts by the U.S. FDA and/or manufacturers.

My intention is not to scare anyone but to share the information by linking to the official sources so that the facts are considered by anyone reading this. Stay safe everyone!

Dogs make the world a better place

Chris Robledo

A Best in Show customer tagged us in an Instagram picture he took over the weekend. In it, the customer's dog, a Frenchie puppy named Karl Sagan, was making friends with a little boy as they rode on the Muni underground train. Seeing the photo brought a huge smile to my face. It reminded me of how much joy animals bring to this world.

It was also a reminder about the special connection between people and dogs, specifically. I get to meet so so many of our customers and their dogs whenever I am in the store. Our customers absolutely adore their dogs because of the unconditional love they receive from them. I could be having the worst day ever, but when a cute puppy dog walks into Best in Show with their human and gives me a lick hello, I instantly feel so much better. It's just the way it works.

Which brings me to this point: Dogs make the world a lot better. If people could love one another as a dog loves a human then I suspect we'd all in a much better place.

Getting our paws wet with our first blog!

Chris Robledo

My name is Chris. Welcome to Best in Show’s first-ever blog: The Biscuit!

I started working with Best in Show in January of this year. Like many of you, I used to walk by the boutique all the time. I never imagined I’d be selling puppy harnesses, ordering kitty litter, posting on the store’s Instagram page,  much less blogging for Best in Show.

But here I am, and I’m loving every moment.

I’ve decided to become an ambassador to the store. I’ll be helping out in the store a few days a week, helping to organize events, blogging and posting on our social media pages.

I want to share my experiences with you in hopes of providing some useful (or just amusing) information. Everything from tips, product information, store events and plenty of doggy puns will be posted here. It’s my way of connecting more with our community!

Stay tuned for more!

Adoption Day at Best in Show

Richard Shiu

It's a beautiful day in San Francisco today. We had our first mobile adoption event in a very long time in front of the store with Family Dog Rescue and co-hosted by Philz Coffee. There were about a half dozen dogs, lots of volunteers, coffee and snacks from Philz Coffee, and a great time had by all. Two dogs were adopted, but there were more in need of great homes. Here's a photo of one of the available dogs. If you're interested, contact Family Dog Rescue
