What's in your pet's food?

Chris Robledo

If you've been reading the news, you may have come across reports about the recall of some pet foods and products. As a pet owner, it's made me a little nervous about what I feed my furry loved one. I'm sure if you're reading this, you may feel a little nervous, too.

Just recently, Newsweek  published an article that stated the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found low levels of a euthanasia drug called sodium pentobarbital in some brands of dog food, which is commonly used to put animals to sleep. The FDA states on it's website that the low level of the drug is "unlikely to pose a health risk to pets," but that this drug should not be found in pet food and products.

The American Veterinary Medical Association has a full list of the food recalls and alerts by the U.S. FDA and/or manufacturers.

My intention is not to scare anyone but to share the information by linking to the official sources so that the facts are considered by anyone reading this. Stay safe everyone!
